What CNC engraving does that laser does not

CNC (computer-controlled rotary engraving) cuts a groove. You can see it and, on many materials, feel it. That is why it still wins on wood plaques, plastic laminates, and traditional award plates where a flashed laser mark would look thin.

It is slower per piece than fibre laser on a long list of tiny stainless tags. It is the better tool when the material would not mark cleanly with a laser, or when the design is meant to have depth rather than a surface colour change.

Awards that have to last

Presentation-night cups from the catalogues often get a laser plate. The perpetual shield that hangs in the clubrooms for a decade is more often CNC-cut or a mix of both. Bring last year’s piece if you want this season to sit on the same shelf without looking like a different supplier.

CNC engraving questions

When do you use CNC instead of laser?

CNC physically cuts the surface, so it is the usual choice for wood plaques, plastic laminates, and lettering that should have a visible groove. Fibre laser is better on stainless knives, tags, and most metal trophy plates.

Can you CNC-engrave honour boards and large plaques?

Yes. Bring the board or a size and material. We will tell you whether a cut groove, paint-fill, or a separate plate is the more durable finish for a hall that will be read for years.
